Walls

June 28, 2016 by Abhishek Mukherjee in daily blog

There are walls that we do not scale. We face one or more familiar walls daily, ones that we have traditionally avoided. And we continue to avoid it.

Time changes and we change with it. So why don't our walls?

Habituation.

It is one of those evolutionary things that has allowed humans to get this far. Left unchecked, it is also what keeps us behind.

We watch the news even when it is garbage.
We don't vote because it never seems to change anything.
We go to Starbucks because everyone else does.
We watch that popular TV show that we have always watched.
We keep doing our jobs the same way because that's what we have always done.

Pretty soon, a few such walls forms a box around us. With sides so high that we can't even imagine a world outside of it.

"Thinking outside the box" is nothing but a buzzword. Until you realize how to see the damn box in the first place.

Find the habituation. Find the box.
